Walk for Animal & Habitat
Launched 2009,August by Amita Singh, Blossom Hackett, Prema Swaminathan, Tulika Mehra, Varsha Sharma, Tushaar Bhardwaj , Vidya Sangwan and Benu Kalra in DLF Phase 3, to protect and provide for all animals who were made to suffer the ruthless brutality of insensitive development and urbanization as agricultural land was being acquired by the developers and colonizers. The lopsided developmental planning in Gurgaon which calculated corporate profits and FDI investments without a vision for inclusive governance, social co-existence, ecological ethics ignored the losses incurred by constructing against the carrying capacity of land, intra-generational and inter-generational equity and justice. The cost of this development was paid by the voiceless animals who suffered destitution, starvation and extinction . The survivors were labelled as ‘stray’. They are homeless not ‘stray’ and WAH aspires to regain their habitats for them.
