All animal welfare organisations in the city [Delhi] use catch poles for catching dogs. Once a dog is caught he or she can and often does panic and begins to bite the poles in an attempt to be free, usually resulting in some pretty awful mouth injuries. Indigree Angels Trust supported by volunteers from Tailwaggers have initiated the Pole Insulation Project to try and help save the dogs from this completely avoidable trauma. We are going into animal shelters in the city and coating their catch poles in a way that ensures that if/when the dog bites the pole he/she does not injure themselves. We are training people within the organisations on how to make and maintain these as well. We have so far insulated PAWS (Vasant Kunj) and ANIMAL INDIA TRUST (lajpat nagar) catch poles. We thank them for caring. We will be hopefully welcomed by the rest of the shelters as well. Support us by promoting this project and making sure that catch poles brought into your area are properly insulated and safer for the dogs. This is being done free of cost. You can support it by (a) donate towards this project, (b) you can convince the shelters you support to commit to it and (c) you can make sure that those who are joining the project keep their poles covered.
